Dive Shop
A dive shop is a store that specializes in scuba diving equipment. These shops are common place in coastal communities, which is not surprising. What is surprising is that these stores can be found in any moderately sized city, even if the metro area is nowhere near a diving attraction. This can save an avid diver significant money, since rental fees make up a large portion of a diving tour.
So what can you expect to find at a dive shop? Well, the short sweet version is that you can find diving gear, and lots of it. You will also more than likely find a lifelong diver who is passionate about the sport. Yes, even though most diving isn’t competitive, it is still a sport, the same way running is, they will both keep you in good shape.
Scuba diving isn’t a big enough industry to interest the big box chains, which is the reason there are still so many local dive shops around. Wal-Mart hasn’t tried to muscle in on the market, because there simply isn’t enough profit to be had. This is a great thing for divers, because it means when you go to purchase your next piece of diving equipment, you will be dealing with an expert in the field who can illuminate potential pitfalls, shortcomings, or benefits to a particular item.
