Diving Gear
Diving gear comes in many different shapes and sizes. This is because the term is so broad, that it applies to nearly anything a diver could use. Need a boat to get out to your dive location? That’s diving gear for you! That illustration may border on the absurd, but it serves to show just how varied the term can be.
So when talking about diving gear, it’s helpful to know what you’re specifically after? Do you need a wetsuit? How about a mask? Or an air tank and supply regulator, are those what you’re after? Even flippers are widely consider to be an essential portion of any diver’s ensemble today. Yet each and every item on that list could adequately be classified as “gear”.
The average first time diver is a tourist who wants to see a destination-style attraction. You go to Hawaii, and go snorkeling. You go to Australia and hit up the Great Barrier Reef. These divers will rent their gear, and not notice the difference. Other divers make a hobby out of it, and for them, owning a full set of gear makes good business sense. Renting every time they want to go out adds a huge chunk to the expense.
